Funeral services for George Melvin Schaefers, Sr., age 74 of Cullman, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
with Father Patrick Eagan, OSB and Father John McDonald, OSB officiating. Interment will be in Cullman City Cemetery.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schaefers passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at University Hospital in Birmingham. He was born January 21, 1941 in Cullman. He was an electrician and worked for U.S. Pipe in Birmingham.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Bauer Schaefers; three brothers, Bernard Schaefers, Edward Schaefers I, and James Schaefers; and two sisters, Cecelia Kinney and Helen Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Southern Schaefers; a son, Mel (Arlean) Schaefers; two grandchildren, Robert (Kelly) Schaefers and Kathryn (Richard) Neese; three great-granchildren, Amelia Neese, Isabel Neese and Thomas Neese; two brothers, Theodore (Rachael) Schaefers and Thomas (Hulda) Schaefers; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Schaefers, Jean Mummert and Nancy Schaefers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
