Obituary: James Bennie Bonds

Visitation will be January 6 from 12 pm - 2pm at the funeral home. Funeral services for James Bennie Bonds, 87 of Cullman, will be 2 pm Monday, February 6, 2017, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery. Rev. Floyd Bradford will be officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bonds passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born December 31, 1929, to parents G.J. and Pearl Bonds. He served in the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Michael Bonds; and a sister, Lucille Puckett.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bonds; daughter, Deanna Bonds; two step-sons, Ricky (Debra) White; Tim (Janis) White; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Francis M. Kane, age 52 of Cullman, will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Father Patrick Egan, O.S.B. officiating; interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kane passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 20, 1964 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He served our country as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis M. Kane, Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Wiley Kane; two brothers, Michael (Nancy) Kane and William (Beth) Kane; two sisters, Mary Anne Kane (Kevin) Garrett and Helen (Howard) Walker; and an aunt, Theresa Kane.

Visitation will be Monday evening, February 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 at Sacred Heart Church.

Funeral service for Martha Nell Bolding, 92, will be 11am Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, interment Cullman City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 6 from 3:30 pm – 8 pm at funeral Home.

She passed away February 3, 2017 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dillard Bolding and 14 siblings.

Survivors include her sister Reba Laverne Ratliff of Arlington, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was a truly loving, sharing and Christian woman who will be missed.

Funeral services for Tammy McKenzie Davis, age 54 of Cullman, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Cullman Heritage Chapel with Dr. Tim Lipsey and Rev. Clyde Ledlow officiating; interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017. She was born July 20, 1962 in Cullman. She was a teacher at Fairview Elementary School.

She is preceded in death by a son, Jake Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Davis; her father, Ben (Patricia) McKenzie; mother, Eloise (Bobby) Allred; sons, Josh Davis and Luke Davis; brother, Todd McKenzie; sister, Cathy Burnham; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 till 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

Mr. Garnett passed away Wednesday, February 8th at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born September 1, 1935 in Dadeville, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Georgia Stokes Garnett; a brother, Clinton Garnett; and a sister, Rebecca Garnett.

Survivors include his wife, Lora Guthrie Garnett; children, Chris Garnett, Jackie (Paul) Goodwin, Sonya Babb, Shelia Baker, Marty Garnett, Bobby Garnett and Mickey Garnett; sisters, Oreva Lett, Mary Lou (Irvin) Menefee, Betty Sue (Roger) Houle and Deborah (Jim) Lee; brother, Carl (Helen) Garnett; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Kerry Wayne Evans, age 87 of Cullman, will be Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Patrick Egan, O.S.B. officiating; interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mr. Evans passed away Tuesday, February 28th at his residence. He was born March 8, 1929 in Cullman to the late Charlie Gold and Eddie Aline Haynes Evans.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret V. Evans; and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Charlotte Schaffer Evans; daughters, Sarah Evans Barbadillo, Karen Evans Campbell and Carlene Evans Parris; sons, Everett C. Evans, Donald W. Evans and Carl V. Evans; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30.

Mr. Brady passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 29, 1965 in Birmingham. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 92. He was an all-time Alabama fan and he could always put a smile on your face. He had such a tender soul and a heart of gold. Heaven definitely gained a wonderful angel. He will forever be missed and loved.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Brady; grandparents, Homer and Ruth James; and brother, Malcolm Turner.

Survivors include his mother, Verline James Reynolds; special friend, Angie Brady; brothers, Patrick (Cindy) Turner, Tim (Beverly) Turner, and Daryl (Tina) Brady; sister, Glendean (David) Moon; nieces and nephews, Alicia (Randy) Jennings, Misty (Keith) Hodges, Tifanie (Nic) Parker, Jeremy (Melanie) Turner, Alanna (Kevin) Twilley, Jaime (Richard) Stevens, Zachary Kelley, Shelly (Jason) Wilson, Breanna Brady, Elizabeth Brady, Joey Horton, Christina Mechaw; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Anita Graves Terry, 65, of Hanceville passed away April 27, 2017 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Services will be held 10am Tuesday, May 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman, Father Patrick Egan officiating. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

She was born on December 8, 1951 to P.H. Graves, Jr. and Ethel Waters Graves.

She was preceded in death by her parents, P.H. and Ethel Graves and her only brother, Ronny Graves. She was also preceded in death by her niece, Laura Graves.

Mrs. Terry, known as “Nita” and “Ninny” is survived by her husband, Calvin Terry; two daughters, Jacqueline (Garry) Gause of Birmingham and Angela Reed of Cullman; one son, Josh Terry of Cullman; and seven grandchildren: Tiffany Harper, Josh Reed, Grayson Gause, Kendall Gause, Kielynn Terry, Bella Terry, and Briceton Terry.

Ninny, a retired nurse, loved spending time with her family, her horses, gardening, and painting. She was loved and will be very missed.

There will be a Rosary 7pm Monday at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Ashley Nicole Hinson, 32 of Vinemont, passed away on April 28, 2017 at her residence. She was born March 24, 1985 in Charlotte, NC. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hinson is preceded in death by a grandfather, Bill Brown.

Survivors include her husband, William “Scottie” Hinson; daughters, Hailey and Riley Hinson; father, Allen Lee Thompson, Sr; mother, Leslie Brown; brothers, Allen Thompson, Mike Corey, Chris Corey and Tommy King; a sister, Heather King; her second Mother, Kathy Swann; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Johnson passed away Tuesday, May 2, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born July 25, 1937, in Cullman County to Hilliard and Gertrude Wade Quick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Imogene Morgan.

Survivors include her husband, Benny Johnson; a son, Stephen (Karen) Johnson; grandchildren, Zach (Kayla) Johnson and Ben Johnson; great-grandchild, Riley Kate Johnson; brother, Donald (Carolyn) Quick; and a host of nieces and nephews.

lvin (Al) John Preiss, Jr. of Cullman, Alabama passed away on January 4, 2018. Alvin was born on October 10, 1927 in Cullman, Alabama to the late Alvin and Frieda Preiss. He graduated from Cullman County High School in 1946 and attended the University of Alabama after military service. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force as an instructor and an aerial flight engineer, and he was a member of The American Legion. Alvin was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Preiss; a daughter, Carol Ann Wilson; two sons: Donald Preiss and wife Charmaine and Timothy Preiss and wife Carla; a sister, Elizabeth M. Smith; a brother, Fred Preiss (pre-deceased); eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, he requested donations to be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cullman. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. William Elliot Free, III died on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was born June 10, 1942 in Jacksonville, FL to William Elliot and Alice Wescoat Free. Elliot attended Auburn University where he earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and served two tours in Vietnam.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joan Knight Free; children: Dr. Paul and Vicki Free, Mr. Wescoat and Katie Free, and Rev. Zana Free; grandchildren: Natalie Free, Camille Free, William Elliot Free, IV, Mabry Free, and Wyatt Free.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. The family welcomes donations to Grace Episcopal Church in honor of Mr. Free.

Debra June Shedd Hicks was born August 24,1956 and passed away January 8, 2018. Diagnosed in 2012, Debra proceeded to fight and win against metastatic breast cancer until she decided THE CANCER had had enough. Debra, a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend decided to end her journey after spending the holidays with friends and family.

She is joining her brother Ronnie Julian Shedd, her father, Franky Julian Shedd, and both sets of her grandparents who all proceeded her in death. She is survived by her loving family to include husband of almost 30 years: Bill Hicks, children: Jillian Dale and Jeremy Dale, mother: Beulah Shannon Shedd brother: Danny Shedd, sisters: Kathy Wilson, Linda Williams, and Tammy Newman. Mother-in-law: Annie Ruth Nabors, Brothers-in-law: Bruce Wilson, James Williams, Carrey Hicks, Brian Zabelle, Jim Green, Archie Hicks, sisters-in-law: Betty Carol Shedd, Cindy Hicks Zabelle, Rebecca Hicks Mizelle. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be a celebration of her life at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 13. As her favorite color was magenta, please feel free to wear something in that or other shades of pink and purple if you have it.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family asks that you donate to Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, Alabama which staffs people who provided nothing but the best care and comfort.

Survivors include three children, Rick (Brenda) Connell, Floyd (Jane) Connell, Jr., and Linda Sandlin; grandchildren, Jason Connell, Luke Connell, Chris Bates, Mike Bates, Anna Reed-Stephenson, John Connell, Tom Connell; and great-grandchildren, Wynter Connell, Patrick Reed-Stephenson, Norah Connell, Jane Connell, and Jonathan Bates.
